Mineral Hot Springs make for a fun, scenic, and of course relaxing day trip from Breckenridge. Here are our absolute favorite springs in the entire state. A visit to Colorado would not be complete without a soak in one of these nearby mineral springs. Locations range from an easy 1 hour drive to about 2.5 hours through the scenic Colorado landscape. No matter which direction or springs you choose, the views alone would be well worth the drive. Note: A bathing suit, flip-flops, a towel and plenty of water is essential. A robe is also a nice touch if it’s winter.
Indian Hot Springs in Idaho Springs is a short 1 hours drive down I70. Cost is between $17 – $23 and the resort is open everyday from 9am-10pm. The perfect pitstop if you are on the way to Breckenridge from Denver. The Hot Springs offer a mineral water swimming pool, geothermal caves & outdoor jacuzzis.
A translucent dome covers a tropical paradise and the main pool. Enjoy tropical flowering plants, live Banana & Palm trees from the hot mineral water. With an average temperature of 90° to 100° the pool is a favorite with adults and children of all ages. The Geothermal caves are gender specific and clothing optional. Driven into the solid rock mountain side, they are full of hot mineral water at temperatures of 104° to 112°. You can also enjoy a mud bath. The mineral rich clay helps absorb the toxins from your pores as the mud tightens and dries. Feel the tingling as you rinse away the mud, leaving you with smooth skin and hair. Enjoy a do it yourself facial or a complete body mud mask!
Mount Princeton Hot Springs is a 90 minute drive south of Breckenridge, near Buena vista. Cost is from $18-$22 and the springs are open from 9am-10pm on weekdays and 10am-12am on weekends. A geothermal creek runs through the resort featuring a variety of pools, with temps from 70 to 120*. The historic bathhouse offers soaking pools and an exercise pool. Open late into the evening, the bathhouse is a great place to watch the stars at night from the pools. A 400ft water slide empties into the large outdoor pools which are also connected by a lazy river. Fitness classes, a relaxation pool and a variety of Spa packages are available in the day spa. A juice bar and the restaurant finish off the impressive amenities.
Cottonwood Hot Springs is also about 90 minutes from Breckenridge, near Buena Vista. Cost is from $18 – $20 and the springs are open from 8am – 10pm. The geothermal, gravity-fed mineral spa pools have great medicinal and therapeutic value. For centuries the Ute Indians used the hot mineral pools as a spiritual gathering place. Today, people have come from all over the world to soak in the curative waters. Out of the respect and honor for the sacred site and healing waters, alcohol is not allowed on the premises. Saunas and spa treatments are available as well.
Hot Sulphur Springs Resort & Spa is about 90 minutes North of Breck, near Kremmling. The short drive gives stunning views of the Gore Range and Green Mountain Reservoir. Cost of admission is $18.50 and the resort is open from 8:00am – 10:00pm. The Ute Indians considered the area to be “big medicine” and “magic waters”. Over 200,000 gallons of natural hot water flow out of 7 springs and through the 21 mineral pools and baths every day. The pools contain a high sulfur content and have temps ranging from 95* – 112*. Rinse the minerals and scent away afterwards in the locker rooms before you leave. The springs are along a pretty hillside overlooking the Colorado River. The resort offers an outdoor swimming pool during the summer and a variety of treatments at the day spa.
Valley View Hot Springs is a little over a two hours drive South from Breckenridge. Cost ranges from $15-$30 and the springs are open from 9am – 10pm. They are also dog friendly for $5-$15 with a $50 deposit. There is a high value placed on protecting the natural ecosystem, so admission can be limited. There are a variety of natural soaking rock ponds, water fall ponds, and warm swimming pools. Temps range from 80* – 107* depending on the season and the specific pond or pool. A sauna powered by the hydroelectric power plant offers temps of 130* – 160*. Clothing is optional in all pools and at all times.
Strawberry Park Hot Springs is a 2.5hr drive north of Breckenridge, near Steamboat. Cost ranges from $15-$20 (cash or check only) and the springs are open Weekdays from 10am – 10:30pm & Weekends from 10am – 12am. Many feel Strawberry Park Hot Springs are the very best hot springs in the Rockies. They offer a level of class and excellence that we love! Restrooms and heated changing areas are available as are picnic tables. Private areas are available for Watsu and table massage. Natural rock sides separate the pools, while the sandbed floors soothe your feet. The 104* mineral waters are fabulous to enjoy as the snow falls around you and settles on the forest. It’s open for all ages during the day, but after sunset, it’s adults only and clothing is optional. After dark, the stargazing is legendary as there are no other sources of light.
