Fishing Breckenridge

Fishing Breckenridge CO

Just because the snow has melted, doesn’t mean the fun has to end in Breckenridge. The summer months bring a whole new host of activities to the table!

There are plenty of outdoor adventures to choose from, including river rafting, hiking, mountain biking, and more. If you’re looking for an activity that will connect you with nature and give you a chance bring home dinner at the same time, you might like to try fly fishing!

A plethora of rivers, streams, alpine lakes, and reservoirs make Breckenridge a premier fishing destination. The nearby waters are teeming with a variety of fish, including five different species of trout! Angling is possible all year long in this mountain town, but the warmer months are when it is most enjoyable.

Spending the day along one of Colorado’s rivers or lakes, basking in the warmth of the summer sun, and taking in the sights and sounds of nature is a delightful way to relax. Playing a few cutthroat or rainbow trout adds some excitement to the experience!

Before setting out to fish, you must first purchase a fishing license issued by Colorado Parks & Wildlife. You can order one through their website (http://cpw.state.co.us/buyapply/Pages/Fishing.aspx) or buy through a license agent. If you hire a fishing guide through an outfitter, they will likely be able to sell you a license as well.

There are popular fishing holes along the Blue, South Platte, Arkansas, and Colorado Rivers, all of which you can reach in about an hour from downtown Breckenridge. You can also encounter fish in nearby Lake Dillon. If you’re feeling exceptionally adventurous, hike up to one of the harder-to-reach mountain lakes to experience even more of Colorado’s wilderness; in doing so, you’re bound to beat the crowds.

Be sure to check on the weather and water conditions before setting out on your angling adventure. If water is too high or flowing too rapidly in the rivers, fishing can be challenging and dangerous.

If you are in need of gear, a guide, or both, visit one of the many fishing outfitters within Breckenridge. They will ensure that you’re appropriately equipped and will be able to give you the most up to date information on current fishing conditions.
